Stake Hilo deals from a 52-card deck shuffled by HMAC-SHA256 over your server seed, client seed and nonce. You guess whether each next card is higher or lower than the current one, drawing in order from the pre-shuffled deck, and each correct guess compounds your multiplier.
The full deck order is fixed by the seed pair before the first card shows, so every card is reproducible. The hashed server seed is the commitment; once revealed on rotation, the whole sequence can be rebuilt and the game checked card by card.
Each guess pays based on the true probability of higher or lower given the current card, minus a 1% house edge. Calling against a card near an extreme - like a 2 or a King - gives near-certain odds and a tiny multiplier; a middling card pays more for the added risk. Multipliers compound across correct calls, so long streaks pay steeply but are increasingly unlikely.

Hilo's optimal call is simply the more probable side given the current card, and the game prices that in - safe calls pay little, risky calls pay more, all with the same ~1% edge per step. Cashing out after a few correct calls banks a modest multiplier; pushing a long streak compounds fast but the chance of an unbroken run drops quickly. The verifier confirms the sequence was honest, not what comes next.
